Breguet Type XX ‘Patina’ incl. extract from archive

This is something truly special. We are very proud to present this stunning Breguet Type XX, dating back to ca. 1958.

Type XX was commissioned by the French airforce, and intended for aerial navigation. This is why you will find watches from several brands carrying ‘type’ as a name. This was not thought up by the brands themselves but was merely an indicator of military spec.

Although this model turned out extremely beautiful and elegant, it was designed with true form-follows-function philosophy. From the matte black dial, intended to reduce flare in bright cockpits, to the large lumed Arabic numerals, intended for optimal readability. This was a tool in optima forma.

A distinguishing feature is the flyback chronograph complication on the Valjoux Cal. 225. This feature improved aerial navigation by enabling the navigator to stop and restart his chronograph instantly, upon changing the heading to boost legibility, the Type XX was fitted in a rather large 38 mm case. This makes it supremely wearable today, even for watch lovers who are not comfortable with diminutive vintage watches.

The Breguet Type XX was in production from 1953 until 1970, although only an estimated 2000 pieces were ever produced. Some were military-issued, and others were made for the civilian market. Considering many were put to hard use, finding a good one today is hard. Needless to say then; we have a very rare and highly desirable watch on our hands here.
