Rolex Explorer Ref. 1016
We are delighted to bring to market this absolutely beautiful Rolex Explorer Ref. 1016.
The long reign of the reference 1016 (1960-1989), can be divided into two main eras: the gilt period (1960-1966/67) and the matte dial era (1966/67-1989). This one is from 1974 and comes with the expected matte dial. But as you may expect from such long production runs, tiny updates and variations can be found. As such, the dial we see here would be labelled as a ‘Mark III’ matte dial.
So far for the history lesson. Let’s talk about how this watch makes you feel. Handling this 1016, you really do get that sense of adventure. This watch is subtle but capable. It is modest but potent. This watch makes a statement about whoever wears it: “I do not care for showmanship, I am ready for action.“
