Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16550 Full set
Have a look at this stunning Polar Explore. The Ref. 16550 is a transitional reference produced between 1985 and 1987. And it has turned out to be one of the more attractive references in the Explorer II space.
The magic is in the dial. Rolex used an unstable white paint that tends to turn warmer in tone over time. They corrected the mistake towards the end of the production period, but it turns out the ones with the defect are now the prettiest and most collectible.
The tone is absolutely beautiful in combination with the cream-colored Tritium. This is patina in optima forma!
Furthermore, this is also a rail dial. The two lines of text above six are perfectly aligned, creating a clean space between the words, commonly referred to as a Rail dial.
As if all of this is not attractive enough…this rare bird comes complete with the original box and papers! Come quick!
