Rolex Day-Date Ref. 6611 1958
Have a look at this rare bird: a Ref. 6611 Rolex Day-Date from ca. 1958.
The 6611 is the second generation of Day-Date, after the 6511. It was fitted with an updated caliber 1055. This was the very first Rolex reference to be fitted with a dial signature reading: “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified”.
This DD comes with a beautiful reeded bezel, the precursor to the famous fluted bezel. The watch comes on an 18k yellow gold Jubilee bracelet from 1955. It is unknown whether this was a dealer-original combination or a retro-fitted option. Keep in mind that mid-century, Rolex and its authorized dealers were quite a lot more flexible about such matters than today.
The early Day-Date vibe continues on the dial. We see a pronounced pie-pan, decorated with claw indices. A set of Alpha hands points out the time for you.
