Rolex Datejust Ref. 1603 ‘Sigma Dial’
If it is a clean, timeless, smooth look you are after, look no further!
This Rolex Datejust ref. 1603 from 1972 features the typical (for a four-digit reference DJ) pie-pan dial and non-quickset movement. It contains beautiful broad hour markers with double black striping all around.
And at the bottom it says: “Sigma T Swiss T Sigma”. While “T Swiss T” might be familiar, indicating Tritium lume on a Swiss-made watch, the sigma markings are less common. They were used in the late sixties/early seventies to add perceived value to watches containing gold details on the dial. Several Swiss brands placed sigma signs on dials containing gold hands and indices. And while most Rolex watches feature white gold hour markers and hands, this marking confirms it once more.
