Insa Watch Skin Diver

Skin diving became popular in the 1950s. It is a way to describe “light” diving, without any serious SCUBA gear. Speedos, a mask, a snorkel, and some flippers. And of course, a skin diver watch. No suit, hence “skin”.

The genre would be defined by slightly more elegant watches, often with a little less water resistance than professional dive watches. Many were agent-labeled Swiss Made watches, explaining the plethora of little-known Skin diver brands out there.

This specific specimen comes in the archetypal skin diver case with its characteristic angular cut-out between the lugs.  The case measures 38mm, although it wears larger due to the overhang of the 39mm bezel. On the wrist, this beauty has a very modern presence.

The matte black dial is fitted with stamped markers and 12, 6, and 9 indices. Dial and hands feature beautifully discolored tritium. The original bakelite bezel insert is present and in great condition. A bright red on the white date at three provides a dash of color.

This watch exudes a mid-century riviera lifestyle. We imagine you wear this with bright swim trunks, a white linen shirt, and some handmade English loafers, sipping on a cocktail while someone steers your Riva through bright turquoise waters. A perfect watch for living such a dream!
