Omega Speedmaster Ref. 105.003-65

The pre-professional Moonwatch.

In this world with a huge variety of Omega Speedmasters, this is definitely one of the most valued ones out there. This watch has gotten a nickname because this watch was the very first watch in space. NASA planned a manned space-mission in 1965, one of the astronauts on that space shuttle was a man named Ed White. Ed and his companions were up to fly into space and walk around their spaceship. At this time NASA didn’t have a precision watch yet for the utility of space missions. However, it was noticed that Mr. White was wearing a Speedmaster on his successful walk in space. The direct result of this unplanned happening was the success of the Speedmaster for the rest of its lifetime.

After 1965, NASA picked the Omega Speedmaster as their watch for space missions after some required updates were performed to this watch. The most significant updates were a bigger asymmetrical right side of the case to protect the pushers, the lugs were changed.

The Speedmaster is the one and only predecessor of the Moonwatch and is a real piece of history. The looks of our Speedmaster do confirm it has been around on this earth for 55 years. Don’t let this spook you, the famous 321 caliber still runs great and is easy to maintain. The original DON (dot over 90) bezel shows some wear but compliments the vintage character of this watch, it even has gained a nice grey tint. There is an accent on the word tachymeter on the bezel, a detail which a good vintage watch lover will appreciate.

Our green strap goes well with the nice aged tritium on the dial but is changeable upon request.
