Heuer Chrono Ref. 403

A Heuer which is becoming more impressive by the day.

Heuer is an incredibly admirable watch manufacturer which unfortunately has lost its reputation during the 1990s. To many watch enthusiasts, 1985 was the tipping point for the historic brand when they merged with Technique Avant-Garde, luckily to the ones that haven’t forgotten about the days before things went south for Heuer, we just got this stunning piece in from 1940!

The average size for a wristwatch was different in the 1930s and 1940s (read more about different time periods in our blogs). Wristwatches were more of a men’s thing and the sizes varied from 30 to 36mm.. It was during the following decades when sizes grew to what we see today as standard, which is why this piece may today be considered small. However, this is definitely enough ‘watch’ to those who know what vintage is all about.

The dial is in almost perfect condition, the gold hour markers are all undamaged and haven’t lost any of their charms. When light falls onto this dial it’s these gold hour markers combined with the gold leaf hands that give you the experience that you’re looking at a fine vintage piece. The duo-register chronograph runs perfect and is operated by the two elegant oval pushers surrounding the crown. The stainless steel case has some minor wear but on the other hand, it has had very little polishing if that even happened, which gives it an appropriate vintage character. The super domed acrylic finishes the look.
