Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Ref. 4100BA
The Royal Oak, the savior of AP.
Introduced in the seventies during the quartz crisis, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was key to the survival of the luxurious watch brand. When the pressure was high, Gerald Genta drew one of his best designs ever, and an icon was created for the long run.
Different sizes were added to the collection over time, and this might be the best size they have ever made. 36 mm is the diameter of the beautiful yellow gold monoblock case. The watch case is quite slim, and the sophisticated integrated bracelet makes this one of the best-fitting wristwatches ever. Period.
The grey tapisserie dial has the applique logo on the 12 o’clock and a champagne date-window on the 3 o’clock position. The dark grey colour of the dial contrasts very well with the yellow-gold watch case. This watch has been executed in 18k gold entirely, bracelet included. Even though the size is modest, this Royal Oak is quite present on the wrist. It will not scream like the big modern pieces, but you won’t go by unnoticed wearing this beauty.
