Enicar Sherpagraph Ref. 2348
The race driver’s pick.
Motorsport and precision watches go hand in hand together. Different chronograph watches are associated with this sport and back in the 1960s, this watch was the one picked by Jim Clark, the best racer of his time. Clark, who won 25 Grand Prix in his career, is one of the reasons for the success of the Enicar Sherpa chronographs. Introduced in 1956, the Enicar Sherpa family was introduced as their ‘explorer’ watches. For the second time in history when mankind reached the summit of Mount Everest, expedition members were wearing an Enicar.
In the 1960s precision became more and more important in the watch manufacturing world and competition was fierce. Enicar realised the importance of their high-performance watches and thus they put the famous Valjoux 72 movement in their watch. This beloved movement ensured the precision of this beautiful reverse panda-style chronograph, resulting in its increased popularity among adventurous people. This vintage piece is becoming more sought-after every day, which is understandable considering its history.
The Sherpa graph we’re offering is from a transitional period, the compositions from 1966 and 1967 differ a lot because new hands, dials and chapter rings were introduced. Any Sherpa graph from this period is rare and this is one of the prettiest we’ve seen.
The matte black dial with off-white registers is already a great start for a good vintage chronograph. This watch has the new baton hands’ which Enicar introduced in this period. However, these new hands were mostly combined with the new straight triangle chronograph hand, but ours still has the beloved vintage ‘Lollipop’ chronograph hand known from the early 1960s. The originally antracite-coloured chapter ring gives you the real vintage feeling here, it has turned into a faded grey colour which brings the Brevet case and panda dial perfectly together.
