Omega Speedmaster TROPICAL 145.022-69
Chocolate anyone?
This is the watch from the year. I am sure you know the story, but in short: In 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon. Both wore Omega Speedmasters, although Armstrong left his in the lunar module during the very first steps on the moon.
So this 145.022-69 probably left the Omega factory right about that time when the whole world stared at their TV sets in amazement. Over 50 years have passed since and those years have been very good to this Speedy. Time and the elements have turned its black dial to a rich brown tone reminiscent of chocolate or coffee. A look that is rare and highly sought after by collectors.
Although this is a later reference than the ones worn by the moon-going astronauts, it is still considered pre-moon. You just have to look at the case back to know. There is no mention of NASA, space travel or the moon landing to be found. Omega just had not realized the full commercial potential of the moon association yet. And that might make it all the more charming.
We have paired this amazing watch with a dark brown suede strap, bringing out the brown hue even further. You just have to see it to believe it!
