Heuer Carrera Dato 45 Ref. 3147S
If you are a fan of racing, the 1960s are likely a fascinating decade for you. Thunderously loud cars with colorful jetset drivers blasting down legendary tracks. Names like John Surtees, Stirling Moss, Jochen Rindt, Jackie Stewart and Mario Andretti would lose colleagues to tragic accidents on a regular basis. This was living on the edge!
The decade saw the launch of some legendary racing chronographs as well. 1963 was the year that both the Rolex Daytona and Heuer Carrera lines were born.
Heuer experimented with their watches a little more than Rolex did. Incorporating a big date window on a chronograph was a bit of a gamble and it was no major commercial success like the three-register chronographs were. This means these Dato chrono’s are now much rarer and more sought after. A quirky variant of an important watch.
The S reference indicates we are dealing with a silver dial variant. Combined with the sharp, angular case, this gives the watch a contemporary aesthetic. This one is in great condition. Just look at the creamy lume in the hands, perfectly matching the lume pips on the dial.
Race to Reestraat 3 to see this beautiful watch up close!
